Many animals are coming down into the towns to drink water and eat due to the fires. The two fawns were on my son\’s lawn the other day. So cute. He says they come every evening.
They live close to the Sacramento River and tend to get more animals. We get a lot of turkeys on my side of town.
Yep, we\’re still smoky – the air is still bad but the good thing is we are cooling down. We\’re in the \’90s. and much cooler at night now. Fall is just around the corner for us – a time when Summer doesn\’t want to give up her control and there will be some hot days but if Fall has anything to say, Fall will win. But the battle never stops. Once Fall is in place for a while, Winter will be its next opponent and we know how that will turn out.
I feel this summer, all I did was wish it away and you know how that goes – it doesn\’t make it go by any faster. In fact, it dragged on day by day, the same old smoke and HOT dry unhealthy air. It\’s been very hard to deal with. Besides 2018, the summer of 2021 has been the worst. Plus you can\’t really go anywhere too far if there are fires within 50 miles. Any lengthy vacation has to be planned after the fires are out and they predict early winter.
Thursday when I was folding my bedsheets I realized the fitted one had a hole in it. Dang! I loved those sheets. So off I went to make a purchase. I went to three places to look for bed sheets I could afford. Back in the day, you could always just replace the bottom fitted sheet. I could not find one anywhere. You have to purchase the whole set. I don\’t need pillowcases or another top sheet. The sheet sets are not cheap either. Bed Bath and Beyond have queen-size sets at $300+ and I draw the line on that price. I\’ll use the flat sheet if I have to with those garter belt thingys. At Target they had a sale – a queen set on sale for $89 – they were cotton which is what I like and they were in a cloth bag. I washed them and when I took them out of the dryer they were like paper. They even crinkled like paper. The husband said, \”they have to be worn in.\” which is partly true but the last pair of sheets I bought were organic cotton from Kohls and they were soft at the get-go.
Every time we moved in the bed, we could hear the crinkle of the sheets. I tossed and turned all night – they did not have a nice smooth sheen on them so with every move, my pajamas would bunch up on me. I finally gave up at 3:30 am. I felt like I had been sleeping on sandpaper. I had a rash on my upper arms and my legs from the sheets. I have very sensitive skin. When the husband got up, he too admitted the sheets had to go. We packed them up neatly in the cute little bag and I returned them as defective. That was a first for me. I have never returned USED SHEETS! I didn\’t even know you could. I always thought it would be like returning underwear you wore and washed once. You just don\’t do that!
So I have ordered some new sheets – spent a bit more and they will come in about 10-15 days. For years we only used one pair of sheets until one time one of us got sick – and had to scrounge in the linen closet for a bottom sheet. Now I enjoy the convenience of having 2 sets – one on the bed and one in the wash.
If I were stinking rich and money was not an issue, I would have my bedsheets changed daily. (by someone else) It\’s one of my guilty pleasures…
