Still in July

I woke up this morning believing it was August 1 and I was so happy until I realized I still had 1 more day to go.  I\’m counting off the days till Fall – and of course, once we get into August, Fall is right around the corner.

I\’m going to THINK FALL in August. If I\’m looking at continued HOT weather, and am inside, I might as well do some deep cleaning so I can enjoy when Fall comes. Now, our Fall isn\’t always cool and crisp, the way I would love for it to be. Most of the time, it is still hot but the mornings and nights are cooler and I do see changes. I enjoy transitioning out of summer and into the cooler months.

By this time of the year, I am bored with my summer clothes. I miss my jeans,  certain tops, sweaters, and boots.

The US Coast Guard\’s birthday is August 4 and the Cal Veteran Home is having a birthday observant on Monday and asked my husband to speak. The tradition for every service they honor is to host the oldest and the youngest and this year, my husband is the youngest! That\’s a first. Usually, when he has done the Navy\’s birthday he is the oldest. (he also served 10 years in the Navy before moving to the Coast Guard for 10 years) They have refreshments and a cake cutting ceremony. Unfortunately, I won\’t be able to attend.

Right now my husband is going over his photos – thinking about what he would like to speak about in his allotted 10 minutes. Here he is in 1994 in front of the Russian Arktika-class nuclear-powered icebreaker, Yamal at the North Pole. In October of 1994, on her maiden voyage, they were on a joint expedition with the National Science Foundation. They met up with my husband\’s icebreaker at the North Pole where the Russian Captain invited them all over to a BBQ (reindeer) and swimming party.

Wow, that was certainly an memorable experience for your hubby.I'm not much of a summer person either. Our summer heat is usually up by the second week of September. When I first started teaching, there was no air conditioning. I remember those hot weeks at the start of every year.

I'm with you and am beyond bored with Summer. It is suddenly over 100* here. Ugh. I miss warmer clothes, working in the yard, going for walks, etc. I am definitely a cooler weather person. For me, the only thing good about August is our wedding anniversary. Lord willing we'll celebrate 42 years on the 11th. Poor guy deserves a medal for sticking with me this long. *lol*Please tell your husband thank you for his service. Well done sir.Blessings. xx
