Expensive Mattress and Murphy\'s Law

Saturday I took Char out to buy a mattress for her bed. Her sciatica is still bothering her. She stopped with the physical therapy; saying it just wasn\’t working and now sees a Chiropractor once or twice a week. She asked him about a new bed, and he said it was up to her. She had $2100 saved up.

Boy, are mattresses expensive. She just bought the regular-sized mattress – and she spent all of her cash. It was delivered on Sunday. I tried to explain to her that this bed wasn\’t going to magically make her sciatica go away. But she got all excited and was pretty much expecting it to be wonderful. So she called this morning and was in tears – she didn\’t sleep well last night and woke up feeling the same. I just don\’t know what to tell her. I know how painful sciatica pain is and she also has a very low tolerance to pain so it is hard to tell the difference. I feel bad for her.

Our mattress is about 20 years old – it probably is time and better to get it sooner than later.  I don\’t know but at those prices…

Murphy\’s Law

Last week I mentioned I had one-half of my teeth/gums deep cleaned – I go back this Wednesday and I will be done. Since then, my tongue on one side is still numb. It feels like I burnt my tongue on a hot drink. I can\’t take anything. I have to swish it to the right side in order to taste and even then, certain foods just have no taste. I looked it up and there isn\’t anything you can do about it but wait it out. I will tell them about it when I go in, this Wednesday.  Could take 4-6 weeks. I hope perhaps I can lose a little weight but sadly the only taste I can taste is sweets.  Normally I am a savory person – Sweets tend to be too sweet for me but not now.  This could be TROUBLE!

I sure hope the other side doesn\’t go numb on me.

This happened to me when I was in the 8th grade. I had oral surgery and the lower left side of my chin was numb for months. It was great – I could pop pimples and not feel a thing. Slowly it went away.

Mattresses are ridiculously expensive and I've had difficulty finding one that makes me happy. The ability to taste sweets is the strongest sense of taste (I think that's what I learned at the nursing home).Love,Janie

$2,100 for a mattress?! Holy Toledo! We spent $450 or less, I think, on our last one and it's just fine. Had it for about 5 years. If they were that much I'd be sleepin' on a cot. *lol* Which brings up the question, why is it so difficult to buy a mattress without one of 'dem cushy toppin's now?! I want a plain mattress that can be flipped over again and again. Plain mattresses have become like hen's teeth.I do hope the oral surgery goes well and there's no more numbness. I'd be concerned about biting my tongue (I've done before! Ouch!). Y'all stay cool and safe.Blessings. xx

Yeah I was really surprised. I remember when you could buy a good mattress set for about $500.

I prefer the mattresses that you can flip, too. I'll add my own pillow topper that I can wash. They now make hybrid mattresses – half coils half something else.

Tim & I recently bought a new mattress for our bed cost us $700 the one we replaced had cost $1000 so this one was less. What annoys me is that mattresses today are not made to be flipped.
