Record Breaking Heatwave next week (maybe)

My weather apps do not say this but my son sent me this and said this is going viral on Facebook. It\’s put out by the National Weather Force. Huh? Never heard of them. I suspect it is a made-up phoney website to incite fear and panic. Plus if it\’s gone viral on Facebook then it must be fake.

The young people are the ones that are fearful. They have no recollection of how hot it was back in 1978 when I moved my parents up here – 121. I swore I\’d never lived up here. It is always HOT in the summer in the central valley. I wish I could give each young person the journal of William Brewer –

In 1860 William Brewer, a young Yale-educated teacher of the natural sciences and a recent widower accepted an offer from Josiah Whitney to assist in the first geological survey of the state of California. He travelled more than fourteen thousand miles in the four years he spent in California and spent much of his leisure time writing detailed letters to his brother back East. The letters describe the new state in all its spectacular beauty and paint a vivid picture of California in the mid-nineteenth century.

It should be mandatory reading. Sadly it is not. It wouldn\’t fit the narrative.
I went to JC Penneys yesterday and was checking out and the millennial cashier guy was commenting on the heat – that he\’s from Washington State and only been here this year and he\’s telling me how this is HIGHLY UNUSUAL. I tell him (as nicely as I could)
\”Actually, it\’s not.\”
He wants to argue with me.
\”Oh, you\’re a climate change denier.\”
\”I recognize that the climate is changing but most of it is hype like this heatwave and I don\’t believe all of it is man-made. \”
He then just ignored what I said, copped an attitude and the transaction was over.
What gets me is I probably have a \”smaller carbon footprint\” than he does. and that\’s due to being a frugal conservationist and for being a good servant to the earth God gave us. Nothing more.
We\’ll see if it gets that hot next week. If it does, it still doesn\’t prove anything other than it\’s one of the many extreme heatwaves we get here. Most of the time our summer temps are 105+ That\’s NORMAL for here. Do I like it? No. But I have found, the more I complain, the hotter it seems. For me, it works to just accept it and live accordingly – like inside my air-conditioned home. I can\’t believe how there are still some old people that live up here with no air conditioning. Just swamp coolers and they never complain. My friend Margie has a swamp cooler. It really doesn\’t work when the temps get over a certain temp. Plus I think it works better in humid areas. We\’re at 8% humidity.
I\’m glad I\’m no longer on Facebook – I get all I need from my son who occasionally likes to text me with the latest from Facebook –  knowing I am out of the social media loop.

I have a science degree. You are right. Climate change is 1 to 2 degrees above normal for 25 to 50 years. So the hot weather is always what Redding California has. It is just 1 or 2 degrees on average more which few could recognize as hotter.

I remember the ultra hot summers of central CA!! A friend is at Clear Lake right now, and he said y'day it was 109*!

It seems to me that growing up our winters were defiantly colder. There was skating on ponds that now never freeze over. But then I sware the summers used to be hotter! I remember many days over 100 and that is rare to never now. Then of course we did not have air conditioning so it could just be a false memory.

Heatwaves happen and if we have air con and common sense we should be ok

I agree. Complaining doesn't do a dadgum thing except make ourselves miserable. Whew, though, in the 120's?! Wow. Hope the predictions are all hype and fear mongering and not for real. Whatever happens, I'm sure everyone that takes the proper precautions will survive. I was just looking at the photographs of our house from back in January 2018 when it actually snowed here in SE Georgia. I glad it's just weather and the Lord is in control. I thought it was fun. Wish it would do that again. Y'all stay safe. Praying you'll get some much needed rain.Blessings. xx
