Sometimes you just have to laugh

Last night while driving home after feeding Ed, our van started to rapidly overheat. It\’s never done this before. We turned on the heater and made it without incident. The husband gets stressed about it – I wasn\’t about to lose any sleep over it. I just do my Scarlette O\’Hara thing, \”I\’ll think about it tomorrow.\”

This morning, we talked about it. I thought it was ironic since we are talking about purchasing a new vehicle. But not now! We planned on keeping our Van to pull the tent trailer and for hauling. Plus how would we even get out and about? We\’d have to rent a car just to go out and buy a car since we only own 1 vehicle.

We\’ve been living with 1 vehicle for 5-6 years and we\’ve never had a conflict. We saved a lot of money not having to insure another vehicle and it did cut down on my driving habits as well as his.

Fortunately, he went out to the garage this morning and checked the fluid levels, and it was down to half a tank on the coolant. So he filled it up and then called around to see about getting the system flushed and possibly it needs a new thermostat. Our regular mechanic is booked up till June 2.

That is not going to work.

So he took it to Jiffy Lube to at least get the system flushed and with new fluids and they found out that there was a leak from a hose – they can fix it but they don\’t have the part. So the husband ordered the part which comes in tomorrow and then they will fix it.

Whew! That was a close call. It\’s a 2001 Dodge Sport Caravan that has only 136,000 miles – never any major issue that we couldn\’t afford to fix. We\’ve taken good care of her.

Just with the added water, we can still drive her – (short distances) and the good thing it is not heating up like it was.

I did manage to get to the podiatrist this morning. My toes are healed. No more soaking twice a day and no more bandages. I do have to still finish up the anti-biotics.

I hate car issues – they stress me out! I'm so glad it turned out to be something fairly easy to fix.Hooray for healed toes!

Good you knew to use the heater. I have the years ago mindset that if you get 100,000 miles out of a car you are lucky. These days it is more like 175,000 – 200,000.

Yay on the van being a cheap, easy fix. Praise God. WHEW is right! That was smart to check the regular things first, like hose, fluids, etc. That's my Go To First routine when something odd happens with our vehicles too. We did without two trucks for a long time. Saved us big bucks. And another Yay on the toes being healed. I had an infection in a toe nail (I know, TMI … ha ha) awhile back and that was a \”cheap\” fix too. No going to the Doc. All I had to do was throw out the old nail polish. Then soak my feet in water with hydrogen peroxide and Epsom Salts for awhile. Fixed it. Whew.God is good, all the time.Still praying y'all will get rain and soon. We need some of that too. Seems like southern Louisiana is hoggin' all the moisture this week.Blessings. xx
