I hope this finds you all well, having had a refreshing weekend. We took a walk across the Sacramento River on Saturday with Laydee.
Don\’t be fooled – it looks like a fallen tree during the day but at night…it becomes a dreadful giant lizard ready to devour everything in its path.
At least that is what it looked like to me.
Sunday we called and checked up on my 80 yr old friend, Margie. I hadn\’t heard from her and she told me she had a blood poisoning event that landed her in the hospital for a few days. She\’s supposed to go to her regular doctor today so I hope they can find out what the cause was.
Margie lost her husband in 2019. They were both good friends of ours; pretty much our first real friends after moving up here. She\’s been going downhill ever since. At times she seems very down – she\’s lonely. Her adult kids do what they can do, but they have their children and her son works 2 jobs and like I said, they help out when they can. She lives on a good chunk of land in the country. The area she lives in is prone to fires. She has to keep her property cleared of trees and deadwood 100 feet from the house and the weeds kept down etc. or Cal Fire has to fine her if she doesn\’t. She doesn\’t have the income to afford this. So we drove over to her place, brought her some food, and Thursday my husband plans to spend the day there, clearing out her overgrown land. I also offered to go to the Senior Food Bank once a month for her. Ever since her husband passed, she hasn\’t been getting it. Also, the USDA Food Commodities Food Bank is also once a month. She has to let them know we are picking up the food for her since she no longer drives.
It will be a pleasure to be able to help her in this small way.
