Come Saturday Morning…

I woke up humming this old song from 1969 by the Sandpipers. I first heard it in the movie,  The Sterile Cuckoo. with Liza Minnelli,  Anyone remember this teen/college movie? I was 15 when it came out and I didn\’t understand a lot of the mature references made at the time.

I attended the movie with 18-year-old college freshmen from San Francisco State University. I felt like such a grown-up plus being with an \”older man\” and all.  There was some partial nudity –  that I had not ever seen before.

\”You want to peel a ripe tomato?\”

HUH? The theater laughed – The boy laughed – I laughed not to appear immature.

The next day, I asked my Mom what that meant. She had no idea I had gone to see this movie. I guess it was rated M or R. Hey, at least I came to her to ask what it meant.

I don\’t know if I want to see the movie again. I think it would be boring. I am no longer that innocent plus I don\’t care for the same movies I loved as a teen. I no longer care about watching Gidget movies (although they were my favorite) or Connie Francis in Where the Boys Are?

But the song, I still enjoy to this day – brings back memories of being young and dating this young man.  I do tend to hum it on beautiful Saturday mornings – I\’ve done this for years. No one knew why.

Come Saturday morning

I\’m goin\’ away with my friend

We\’ll Saturday-spend \’Til the end of the day

 Just I and my friend

We\’ll travel for miles In our Saturday smiles

And then we\’ll move on

But we will remember Long after Saturday\’s gone

I remember going to see that movie when I was young as well. Don't really remember it but I know we went because Liza Minnelli was in it. Your bringing it up makes me want to watch it again since since I don't remember it at all.

I remember watching the The Sterile Cuckoo. Like you, I don't care to ever see it again. Not my cup of tea anymore. I'm mostly into watching British movies and British TV Detective series from the '80s-early 2000s. My favorite series are \”A Touch Of Frost\” and \”Inspector Lewis\”. Thank heavens for DVD's! *lol*Blessings. xx

I still don't know what that means. I'll bet everyone laughed without knowing what it meant. When your 16 everything has connotations and elicits a giggle. At least that's what she said.

I too saw the movie with my boyfriend, now husband of 50 years! We rented it a few years ago but it did appear corny to be honest. I do love the song though.
