Mom and home movie memories

I was going to write about it being my mom\’s birthday today – she would have been 87. Then again, there isn\’t more to say, other than that –
so Happy Birthday Mom.
Mom, me in the background, and our little dog, Sassy.
She\’s been gone 13 years – hard to believe it at times. I just finished watching some old home movies of our family when I was a kid.  The first few years after my folks bought a \”movie camera\” they used it practically every chance they got. Then it dwindled away – just another novelty. Too many clips of my dad water skiing, or holding up fish he caught…
Why do men do that? They go fishing and when they come back, all the men in the neighborhood including boys, come around and look at the dead fish. Some will pick the fish up and pose with it…
Anyway, many clips of that. Also, blurry scenery that hasn\’t aged well.
I wish they had taken more pictures of us, moving around and such. I much prefer to see how I looked all those years ago – or to see my mom again as she was. There is something about seeing a moving picture rather than a still. I have plenty of photos of us – just wish they had done more movie pictures.
I saw my grandparents from my dad\’s side, and many aunts and uncles – all gone now. My infamous grandma, Mable (my mom\’s mother) tossing the ball to us. I wish the camera was more detailed.
When Michael was about 1 year old, we bought a movie camera. And the same thing – we went at it, hot and heavy for about 5 years and then just stopped. I don\’t have any of Navy as a baby. That makes me sad.

We had a movie camera and did the same. I was the oldest and my parents had photos of me, but not many of my siblings. Sad, but it happens to all of us.My mom has been gone for 17 years, hard to believe…

That sounds enjoyable. We don't have movies just snapshots. I love old pictures even if I have no idea who the people are.

Yes it is hard to believe – My dad has been gone 14 years. I'm the only one left out of my birth family except for my half brother.

Yes and I was the worst as a kid. Jumping up and down, waving every time the camera was pointed at me. I don't remember being like that, but I have the home movies to prove it. Ugh!

That's great that you have home movies when you were a kid. I only have a few when my kids were little, and they are hilarious to watch.~Sheri
