cough, cough, cough

Back in Feb 2019,  my husband and I had an upper respiratory illness that lasted about 2-3 weeks and gave us an annoying cough. He went to his doctor to get a cough medicine – I did not. His cough went away and here I am, Oct 2020 and I still have a cough. It\’s not bad like it was but it just won\’t go away. At times I feel out of breath. I cough in the morning, in the evening, when I lie down on my back – if I talk too much or if I laugh or after I eat.  So this morning I decided to make an appointment to get it checked out. I go tomorrow at 9:15 am.
I\’m an old soul – I don\’t go to the doctors much – I think it is the way I was raised. Before we even went to the Doctors, Mom would do other stuff to knock out whatever we had. Obviously, none of my illnesses were serious. Her home remedies always worked and made me feel better.
I don\’t take supplements or vitamins either.  My husband swears by his supplements. When I had my knee surgery I asked my surgeon/doctor if I should take these joint support supplements and he said, \”Sure if you want to waste your money.\” My regular doctor tells me to eat simple, clean, drink water, and get exercise.  As I get older, I am thinking maybe I should reconsider and give them a try. I just don\’t want to spend $100\’s dollar in supplements when I could use it for healthy food instead.

I am not concerned about my cough – It\’s just annoying and I feel exhausted after a coughing jag.  I think it has something to do with my GERD. I was on prescription strength omeprazole some years back and took myself off them. But I still struggle with horrible acid reflux –
I am interested in what supplements and vitamins you all take, so I can think about it.
I just want to rule out anything serious (although I highly doubt it) and just get some cough medicine or a chest x-ray or something. I am concerned if I should get the flu or worse yet, covid19, with this cough I have. I don\’t have congestion like when you have pneumonia or bronchitis but there feels to be some minor congestion. I don\’t smoke, nor have I ever. My husband doesn\’t smoke. Maybe I need to use a vaporizer at night and because I live in a dry area with low humidity, maybe a humidifier would help. I just need to get this taken care of.

Wise to see what is causing the cough especially after its been for this long. I just take 2000 mg of vitamin C daily (more if I think I'm getting a cold). betty

I take vitamin C and D every day and have for years. I just added B-12 a few months ago to help with my energy. I don't want to jinx myself but I haven't had a cold or the flu in several years. Whenever I feel like something may be coming I double up on the vitamin C for a while and it usually goes away.

Years ago I had whooping cough…horrible. They also call it the 90 day cough and it did in fact last just about 3 months.Ever just try a spoon of baking soda in an ounce of water for the reflux thing? I think that was the old Mom fix of days gone by.

I've heard of that and haven't tried it yet.

I've been absent from blog reading, but I had a cough that went on forever and it was due to my GERD. I've been on omeprozale for ages.

Yeah Gerd can do it but the xray is what has me most concerned. Then hopefully we can treat my cough.
