My Shingles Shot

This morning I went in for my Shingles shot. I go back for the 2nd dose Dec 7. I heard it was a humdinger of a shot so I came mentally prepared. It\’s been 4 hours and so far so good. I did take my extra-strength Tylenol. (I\’m telling you, that REALLY works for me) It did hurt during the injection – I could feel it burn and it felt that way for a couple of minutes. I kept telling myself,

\”it\’s better than Shingles.\”

WHAT ARE SHINGLES? Shingles is a viral infection that causes a painful rash. Although shingles can occur anywhere on your body, it most often appears as a single stripe of blisters that wraps around either the left or the right side of your torso. Shingles are caused by the varicella-zoster virus — the same virus that causes chickenpox. If you had chickenpox as a child, the virus hasn’t completely gone away. It hides dormant in your body and can reemerge many years later as shingles.

I\’ve known a few older people in my life who had it and it kept coming back.  No thank you. That looks awfully painful to me. It can settle in your eyes, and I knew one older lady that had it on the inside of her arm – that soft part that wiggles. She had it for months and it was so painful it was hard for her to sleep.

Tomorrow we go to the Toe Doctor. OMG if she tells my husband the bone has not healed yet – I\’d say it never will and its time to just wrap it up and get to work. Well, I won\’t really say that – but it\’s what I would be thinking. Our yards are like a jungle. I did what I could but it\’s more than even I can handle. I\’ll be happy when my own workload should be minimalized when he gets back to doing some stuff around the house. I\’ve been doing EVERYTHING and I do poop out. My upper arms are not as strong as they used to be plus I have blown discs in my lower back.

Our county is going through a COVID19 surge. It started where my son Foodie works. So far he\’s good. Then it really ramped up due to a local mega-church (Bethel) that opened up their Supernatural Ministry School. Students come from all over the world. Something like 219 in 1 day tested positive from Bethel Church. The community is not pleased.

I don\’t take issue with wearing a mask. It\’s not a big deal to me. To me, there are MORE important things to get worked up about. Governor Newsom\’s aid tested positive. I think people let their guard down.

Because of all of this, our county has gone from orange to red and we might even go into the purple stage which is like what we were in March and April. Some people are getting mad – one man, at a Shasta County Supervisor meeting, made a citizens arrest on the county. supervisors. I think the man is a kook – good luck with that!

That\’s it from this part of the Left Coast.

I have heard shingles are very painful and can keep coming back plus the pain can always be there, breakout or not. Wise to get the series of shots. I heard your governor is suggesting people when they eat out put their masks on between bites. Really??? Our cases are going up a bit too but I was expecting it this time of year so its not surprising. Our governor says we aren't shutting down so we shall see. Arizona State University opened up with in person learning and had a surge of cases (mainly because college kids will be college kids and want to party). They socially distances and the like, pulled learning online for a bit and I think the numbers there became more reasonable. Is Bethel Church opened for outside gatherings? betty

I used Tylenol too and some arnicare. Glad you are doing okay. My sister suffered with shingles for more than a year. It was awful.I have degenerative disc disease throughout my entire spine so my time spent in the yard each day is limited.

Yes Bethel has parking lot gatherings but they opened up their hogwarts school and brought in students from all over and got hit hard with covid19. Then they try and wiggle out of the fact by refusing to comment or they hide.

Ah, Denise I'm sorry to hear about your spine. That must be very painful. I have blown out discs probably due to a beating I recieved at the hands of my mom when I was in the 7th grade. It's been miserable for the last 20 years. Swimming helps but I haven't been able to for the last 2 years –
