blackouts, fires, heat, smoke, and now wind

We were really hit hard here in California for the past 2 days. This morning I woke up at 4am, hearing the wind gusts – I got up. Around here, you come to attention when you hear the wind when you know there are fires in the area. The nearest fire is still quite a way from us but homeless encampments in the area use fire to cook and with this wind, they can get out of control very fast. Yesterday it hit 112. In the bay area where I come from, it was 106 in Redwood City – that\’s unheard of. For years, most homes did not have AC due to the cool fog and coastal influence during the summer months. Imagine, having to deal with 106 temps, without AC or maybe just one window unit? Then imagine, having a blackout. You can\’t even use a fan! My city owns its own power company so we don\’t have blackouts – they maintain the lines, whereas PGE doesn\’t. Now that\’s not to say we may never have them. At times if there is a fire here like during the Carr fire back in 2018, they did shut our power. So far today is only supposed to get into the mid-\’90s. That is quite a drop from yesterday. While the AQI is still \”unhealthy for sensitive groups\” it does not appear to be as smoky as it had been.

It is getting better – I think the dead sea salt I have been using to softly exfoliate is working. See? I don\’t need to go in to see a Doctor! No longer is it itching. Now the red bumps on my legs (different to what I have on my arms) are still there. I\’ll give it another week or so before I make an appointment. For that matter, if the weather would just change – I wouldn\’t be wearing shorts so it wouldn\’t bother me as much.

Last week I went in for a haircut and I don\’t like it. I won\’t go back in to have her fix it because I don\’t want confrontation. It\’s not worth it. Instead, I might go to the beauty college and have them cut the part that is bugging me for cheap. Then next time I go back to Ashley, I will tell her. This time I didn\’t show her a photo of how I liked it when she first cut my hair. Such a hassle. For years, I had long hair and trimmed it myself. I hated the part gray and blonde and it was too thick and hard to braid myself so I decided it was time to go short! I love it. I just want it the way she did it the first time. It\’s up to me to show her and remind her.

Every once in a while my stylist cuts my hair a tiny bit differently and it bugs me as well. I am going tomorrow and hope that this cut is the way I like it.I have been keeping California in my prayers. So much damage.God bless.

Poor California! Hoping for rain for it to help with the fires. Person who cut my hair missed a section because of me wearing a mask. It was easy for me to trim it. You are right it's good to avoid a confrontation. Good about the rash improving a bit.Betty

You know, I used to have long curly pretty hair, but it seems these days Ijust pin it up in a barrette to try to stay cool in this California heat. I wishI could just cut it like you did, but if I do that, it would frizz up cause myhair is naturally curly. It would be easier to cut if my hair was straight.Yes, you were sure hit hard in your area, Debby. We've had some powershortages, but they didn't last too long. Hope things get better for you.~Sheri
