What is it with me and refrigeration of late?

The air conditioner in our van is out. Blows slightly cooler than HOT. I made an early appointment for Monday. That means, Sunday – when we drive up to where my son is backpacking, we\’ll have no AC. It will be a minimum of 100 degrees, without AC! Maybe hotter since we\’re due to meet up at 2pm!  Ugh! My husband who swears he is a part lizard says it won\’t bother him. Well, it will me – We were planning to go up early and take the dog and have a picnic.  I guess I will still go, for the adventure of it and it might conjure up some rants to blog about.

On Mt Eddy, looking toward Black Butte (cinder cone) and Mt Shasta in the distance.

Speaking of Foodie, he just called me from the top of Mt. Eddy (9,026 ft) He said it was about 55 up there. Amazing to be able to get cell coverage. The town of Mt Shasta is about 20 miles away (as the crow flies) Climbing that mountain took him at least 5 hours this morning to get to the top. It will be easier to go down. He said the views are spectacular!

Something I didn\’t know about –  \”The mountain is named in honor of Olive Paddock Eddy, who is mistakenly held to be the first woman to climb Mt. Shasta. She was actually 8 months pregnant at the time that she is credited with climbing the volcano. Harriet Catherine Eddy was actually the first woman to summit the mountain. Nelson Harvey Eddy arrived in the area from New York State in 1856. He later became a successful rancher in the Shasta Valley.\”

Another source says: \”Mount Eddy was named for Olive Louisa Paddock Eddy who married Nelson Harvey Eddy in 1854. The couple arrived in Siskiyou County with nothing more than a yoke of oxen and one cow. They settled at the base of the mountain and became prosperous ranchers and farmers. Olive Eddy was the first woman to climb Mount Shasta.\”

Will the REAL Ms. Eddy who was the first to climb Mt Shasta please rise up?

I have a friend that keeps sending me you-tube videos of conspiracy theories – I\’ve told her yet she continues. She says she has \”chemo-brain.\” and forgets. She had non-Hodgkin lymphoma for a few years back and so I can\’t get mad at her. I guess she just forgets. She must send me 4-5 a day on my phone. Oh well…there, but for the grace of God, go I.

Nel climbed Mount Shasta with her dad a couple times. The second time was really hard, and she was beat by the time she climbed down. It's great that your son climbed Mt. Eddy. That is an accomplishment for sure. I'm so sorry your friend had that illness. That's what my Dad had, and didn't make it. I am loving these vintage pictures that you're sharing, Debby.~Sheri
