Another day = another county opening up

My hometown beach – if you look real hard you can see the surfers

Since my sons were out backpacking, and Sara was home alone and I was bored and feeling down (on Saturday) I invited her over. FIRST TIME I\’ve seen anyone in the family in the flesh. We had an impromptu dinner and a lively 2 and a half-hour visit. Even the cat and the dog were excited to have the company! It really lifted my spirits.

She is a nurse and told us that they have cut her hours down drastically. She doesn\’t mind since at first, they were expecting a deluge of COVID-19 patients and only received 1, and that one person did not die. She was working hard during the first couple of weeks, in preparation. Since then, they are only attending to those \”emergencies\” that come in for non-related covid19 – Most surgeries have been postponed. She would love some time off.

Navy will be taking a mandatory 10% pay cut – which is too bad since he was an \”essential worker\” and this is how he is rewarded. Oh well. I\’d really be mad if the Governor wasn\’t also taking a pay cut as well, as it should be. My friend\’s son is taking a position within the California State Public Health. He is moving from Hawaii and should be on the job, just in time for his 10% pay cut. I\’m happy my husband retired from the state when he did. I have a cousin who works for CalPers in Sacramento. I know too many friends and family who are employed by the State of California.

Gavin is allowing the counties to open up – He basically has given up. He knows he can\’t force people into staying at home plus he knows California has to get back to work. We cannot afford to stay home indefinitely. I do wish my county would open up hair salons – The one I go to, said in a Facebook post, as a business, she can\’t stay closed too much longer before going out of business. Now that is sad. She is a single mom and has this really nice posh-type salon. It is one of the better ones in my town. I can\’t imagine then, how hard it is to remain closed, for the smaller ones. We will be losing many small businesses, that I used to patronize regularly and they will be missed. So California will be seeing some hard times ahead.

Sunday I invited my adult kids over for a BBQ. The rain has left and sunny days are on the horizon.

I\’m still staying home though for the most part. If I go out, it is for essential items – I\’m not going out just to go out per se; although I am TEMPTED. The afternoons, around 2-4pm are hard for me. I need something I do, in that time frame and only in that time frame. I haven\’t decided what that will be yet. Ho Hum.

I hope all is well – healthy and wealthy and just stay safe and do what is right for you, while also, looking out for others. Both can be done responsibly.

I agree with your last line. It can be done responsibly and reasonably. Should have been done sooner, like a month ago or at least first of May. No talk of when churches can reopen here. Ours has not made a decision yet. Some are opening on May 31st, Pentecost. Glad you had some face to face fellowship with Sara. I am sure it was much needed by both. Our state has ways to volunteer virtually. Maybe if your state did it would give you something to do during those afternoon hours.Betty

It is time to start opening up. People have learned what to do to stay safer, and others can still stay home if they chose. Large crowds especially indoors should still be avoided. My SIL owns a hair salon. If they don't let her open up, I suspect many clients will find her basement.

We are still staying home for the most part here, too. In the past week we actually went out to 2 different restaurants that have re-opened, either with fewer hours, social distancing in place, or both. I'm not even tempted to go out in the afternoon. We are into the mid-upper 90s daily now, so all errands are first thing in the morning! Noon time is the Vietnamese version of a siesta. Who can go out in this sun?

Yes it is time. They are calling it Quarantine Fatigue and people are getting really angry about it.

That is like here in the summer. With 105+ heat, we do everything in the morning. Hole up in the afternoon!
