Checking in from Northern California

In my rural Shasta county, we now have 3 confirmed positives. Surrounding counties such as Humboldt, Siskiyou is also starting to see some positives as well. More testing equals more positives. I haven\’t been out in public since last Monday. I took Foodie out, to get some food and bought a few things myself. Last Thursday, I took Char out and just sat in my van. We had to get up early and be there at 7am! Everything was stocked well – although Thursday, Char did say there was no toilet paper. I just don\’t get that and it makes me angry to even try to figure it out.

Navy, Foodie, and Sara all work in the medical field to some capacity, with Sara working as an RN at our local hospital. She\’s been putting in LONG hours. Foodie is a Dietician at a Care facility and doesn\’t look forward to IF they should get a positive, they all would have to quarantine together at his work.

What has my panties in a bunch, is the panic I am seeing from friends and some family. Over-thinking it, believing and watching every you-tube video on conspiracy theories, and End times prophecy. My husband and I are pretty laid back. We\’re calm about it all. We realize the severity and just stay home and do other things to keep our minds off it. I do not need to hang on every word from every pundit on TV. I watch the latest from the White House; I watch the lastest from my Governor (which I will say, he has surprised me and is leading very well, without snipes about the President) For me (I know others are opposite and that\’s okay) I like it and feel secure when my leaders are getting along. You know, acting like grown-ups! Gavin has really stepped up to the plate. He praises the administration which is a shock and many are pissed at him for that. The same token, when I compliment the Gov, I get slammed. You know, some people are just gonna HATE no matter what. Now is not the time for partisan politics; another reason why I think the Democrats using this crisis for their agenda is a bad move. Let\’s just get through this TOGETHER and then we can go back to fighting and arguing and hating! I have no patience and stomach for anything tearing down, both parties who are genuinely doing what they can on our behalf.

A good friend down in the bay area was tested Thursday and is still awaiting her results. She has just gone through cancer; is in remission and was feeling very tired although I talked with her yesterday and she is feeling much better.

My FIL took a turn for the worse last week – refusing to eat, refusing his insulin and medications. Kept saying, \”My soul is tired.\” WE haven\’t been able to see him due to the state lockdown so he\’s getting depressed. The CalVet Chaplain went in to see him on Sunday and yesterday. So far, he\’s doing a little better. He is still getting over the flu/pneumonia that he had in late February.

The 41 yr old daughter of my cousin who lives in Eastern Washington has the flu/pneumonia and has been in the hospital for 10 days. At first, her body was rejecting the antibiotics. Just yesterday, they said she can\’t breathe. So I don\’t know what is going on there. She has 4 young children.

I hope this finds you all well and safe and staying inside!

UPDATE: Had to reschedule our Tahoe getaway till May.

Just stay safe. When this is done we'll have plenty of time go back to hating again…or maybe we'll forget how.

Haters gonna hate. Carol and I refuse to live in fear. We are cautious, but we don't panic and we don't hoard toilet paper.Love,Janie

Thanks for the update! We've been limiting what we watch on TV for news. This is serious but I think so much is blown out of proportion. Our stores are starting to see some shelves not be empty that were wiped out a few weeks ago. Hubby actually took a picture of the water aisle and it looked normal and well stocked!! I think it is hard for older people when they just get tired of living. My mom was like that for a few years before she died at 85; she kept saying she wished God would call her home. Hoping though your FIL is able to have visitors in the upcoming days when things hopefully settle down. Its hard to feel isolated like that.I'm surprised Bethel hasn't cured anyone yet from this virus……..betty

Thanks for your post, it's good to know what is happening in other parts of the world. We are staying home here, most businessses are closed except for essential services. Half of my family work in the medical field so are extremely busy and we worry about their health and safety. There is so much information on news services that we limit ourselves with what we watch, too much to take in most days. Stay safe and take care.

Stay safe and stay well. I haven't had the radio on in two weeks and I only read the Detroit Free Press in the morning. I am usually at home alone so no big deal. P.S. I have toilet paper. Had it before the 'panic' buying. Don't understand why anyone doesn't keep this product in stock at home.

My husband and I are also staying calm knowing this too shall pass. And the more I stay of Facebook and other social media the better I think! Some of the posts and comments just make me mad!

These days you have to make a conscious effort NOT to live in fear.

Thanks. Just got done listening to our Gov. Looks like California might be having to take just a bit more stricter measures.

I hear you! I get mad as well.

Sadly many older people and the young do not understand what is going on, how to get them to understand is difficult

I only bought what we needed at the store. Toilet tissue, Kroger sends us coupons which my mother dutifully uses. So we were stocked last year for this calamity. My roomies all have melt downs when we lose electricity and can't flush toilets. We have a well for water. So I am glad we have tissue. But I don't have what some of these panicked shoppers bought. But I did stock up on coffee.
